Just got home from a week of freedive instructor t Just got home from a week of freedive instructor training. I am exhausted in a way I haven’t experienced for a while; the week took its toll on my body and mind. BUT, I got to spend it in the best company I could have asked for, and it was the best learning experience. Stoked for all the guys and all the things we achieved this week. It’s been a wild few months getting my Molchanov It’s been a wild few months getting my Molchanovs and PADI freediving instructor licenses. I was hoping that this day would have come back in April, in the beautiful waters of Bali, and I’d be well into teaching courses by now. The journey is almost over and I can’t wait to launch into the next phase. This photo was taken today on the #molchanovs instructor course, in the bluest conditions we’ve had so far. Watching the sunlight shining through the surface Watching the sunlight shining through the surface of the water from below is one of the most incredible feelings. For my first few months freediving, I was so focused on diving down for depth that I never bothered to flip around and look back up at the surface. When the water is clear you can even look through the surface and watch the clouds, blurred through the water. It’s a moment of total stillness where you can forget about your breath, your technique and the lactic acid just enjoy the view from a perspective that many people will never get a chance to see. . Sometimes when I talk to people about freediving t Sometimes when I talk to people about freediving they tell me things like ‘I would love to freedive but my ears hurt when I dive’. Sometimes, I meet people who have some experience either scuba, and they tell me that they struggle with equalising one or both ears. And sometimes I meet divers who have tried freediving, but they can’t work out how to equalise with the correct technique. I feel you all. I started freediving with barely any ability to equalise at all and it took a lot of work to build the skills. . If you aren’t a natural equaliser, working out the techniques to clear your ears as you dive can be a total bitch. . . . I haven’t been super active in the blog lately, as I’ve been working on new and exciting things (watch this space). But recently, the topic of equalisation has come up so much in conversation I thought I would revisit and refresh an earlier post about overcoming equalisation problems for freediving. . We are gathering at Little Bay at 10am to clean up the bay, in and out of the water. We’ll be submitting the data on the trash we collect to the global World Cleanup Day database. . . This is a great opportunity for you to come and meet new people and get in the water, whether you’re a seasoned #scubadiver, #freediver, or you just want to do some #snorkelling or beach cleaning. For any of you interested in learning to freedive, this is a chance to meet some local divers who can help recommend you schools, and help keep you safe in the water. . . Due to COVID restrictions and to keep everyone safe, we will be splitting up the group to ensure that no more than 20 people are gathered together. Please remember to be safe and keep your distance.
