Course Essentials

Let’s get you prepared for your upcoming PADI freediving course!

Please take note of everything you’ll need in the table below. If you didn’t select gear hire during booking or are missing anything, please email us exactly what you need, and your specific sizes for each item ASAP!

ESSENTIALS

A Full-Body Wetsuit*

  • We recommend using a wetsuit with a thickness anywhere between 5-7mm, even during Summer.

    Why? Freediving is a little different to other water sports in that we stay very still to lower our heart rate, which means we tend to get cold a lot quicker, especially being in the water for over an hour each dive!

  • Please note that wetsuits are only available to hire for our Bondi Courses. If you’re hiring a wetsuit through us, we will need your size: XXS, XS, S, M, L, XXL.

  • If you’ve booked a course in the Northern Beaches, we recommend using Dive Centre Manly for your wetsuit needs.

A Mask & Snorkel

  • Nothing fancy here, as long as it’s snug on your face with no water leakage.

  • So your mask doesn’t fog, you can bring ‘antifog’, or toothpaste (it works!) if you don’t have any

A Weight belt and Weights

  • The number of weights will depend on your body type, students can require anywhere between 3-6 weights on their belt.

  • We will help you out over the weekend with some buoyancy checks to ensure you are weighted up correctly, both in the pool, and the ocean!

A Pair of Fins

  • Long Freediving fins are recommended but snorkel/scuba fins will be sufficient.

  • If you’re hiring freediving fins through us, we will just need your EUR shoe size (don’t worry, we will convert it to your fin size).

Optional: For the Cooler Months

  • A Pair of Dive Socks/Booties & Gloves

  • A Wetsuit Hood (if your wetsuit doesn’t have one!)
